Have your book-tastes changed over the years? More fiction? Less? Books that are darker and more serious? Lighter and more frivolous? Challenging? Easy? How-to books over novels? Mysteries over Romance?

I'm not really sure how to answer this question. I started reading when I was nine years old with Enid Blyton's mystery novels. Obviously, I'm not reading the same books I was reading back then, but I think the type of books I read hasn't changed much. My reading preference has always leaned overwhelmingly towards fiction with mysteries and thrillers being my favourite genres, and that hasn't changed over the years.

I used to re-read books very frequently earlier, but I don't do that very often now. Another thing that has changed is that I'm a lot more like to try new authors or genres these days than I would have done in the past. And, of course, the books I read have become longer, darker and more serious over the years and now I'm not really averse to trying books that I perceive as "difficult" or "challenging".

What about you? How have your book tastes changed over the years? Please do leave a comment or a link to your answer if you've already answered this question on your blog.

I love tackling 'challenging' books now ;0)

I'll have to check out Enid Blyton. Thanks for the tip!

I'm not averse to more challenging books, either. Reading seems to be an addiction that consumes more and more territory.

I'm a big fiction reader. I think I always will be.

I don't reread as much nowadays and I miss it. But I can't complain too much because I have loads of TBR's waiting for me courtesy of blogger recommendations.

I loved reading Enid Blyton too when I was a kid! I still enjoy reading them...will never grow tired of her books.

And true, there's absolutely not enough time for me to re-read books I like. There are so many new books which I haven't even touched yet! It's a problem. I'll need to try my best to read as much as I can.

All the best to you in your reading too!

Enid Blyton created such wonderful worlds that still stand the test of time! Great post :-)

Selecting books to read has been easy for me always. Just read the books you recommend. :P

I didn't answer this week, but mine would've been pretty much the same as yours - more adventurous. :-)

It got me thinking and I did reflective account. What I read over the years has changed but what engages me has remained pretty constant

My reading tastes and habits are constantly changing and moving. The largest single change is that I finally started reading romances, once I got past my natural tendency to balk at the stereotype and opened myself up to the reality that many of them are quite good.

I've seen so many references to Enid Blyton today, and I don't think I ever read anything of hers. I finally went back to reading romances after a hiatus of several years where I read nothing but politcal and action thrillers. It was almost as if I didn't want to be reminded of anything remotely romantic so I chose books where the cast was almost all male and war was the norm. Even though I'm back to reading romance more now, I'm still really susceptible to the lure of a good action thriller like Death in Small Doses -- something with lots of action and suspense to keep me glued to the chair for a few hours at a time.
