BTT: Format

All other things (like price and storage space) being equal, given a choice in a perfect world, would you rather have paperbacks in your library? Or hardcovers? And why? (BTT)

I've never thought about it really. I've always read paperback, so that's the format I'll stick with. I would feel kind of awkward reading a hardcover. Paperbacks are more comfortable to read, easier to carry and lighter than hardcovers.

The one advantage that hardcovers have is that they can be preserved forever. But hey... weren't we talking about a perfect world? In a perfect world, I'd learn to say a firm NO when somebody tries to borrow books from me. Then I wouldn't have to worry about damaged books.

I read more paperbacks, and I think hardcovers are expensive... but will only buy them if they're written by my favourite authors! Happy BTT!

I only lend books to a couple of people I KNOW will not damage them and give them back. I still have a list of books I lent out and need to buy again!

I seldom "lend" a book... I figure if it goes out the door, it may not come back (a lot like money, LOL).

Happy BTT!

I hate lending to people who do not how to care for books.

The lending question is a real issue. I've lent precious books to people that have come back in such a state as to leave me speechless. I rarely lend books now for that reason.

Clearly, I've been very lucky when I lend my books because they've returned every time.

I'm a supporter of paperbacks, too. :)

I don't like to lend my books either. But if I lent my hardbacks (assuming I had any) I'd take off the cover thingy so that they wouldn't damage or rip it. Anal? Me? Nah...

Yes, I've lost books by lending them out, too -- these days I either don't lend books or I'll give one to a friend.

Happy BTT! :)
